NORTHERN ITALY: The Alps, Dolomites & Lombardy
"Tirano Sanctuary"
"Tirano Sanctuary"
The village of Tirano - getting real close to Switzerland, the starting and arrival point of the Bernina Express red train. Tirano is famous for the Sanctuary dedicated to Madonna which, in 1504, appeared to a seer to whom Maria ordered to erect a church in her honor, in exchange for healing her affected brother from the plague.
This was new to me. I did not realize the virgin Mary made deals and gave orders. Who knew?
This is what welcomes you to the village and like every cathedral, church, duomo, sanctuary or whatever you call it in Italy, the art made the story come to life and every piece stunned me. It is hard to react to so much beauty in one place and my eyes can’t take so much, for long periods, without a nap.
Since I look kinda dumb with a continuous jaw drop I don’t stay long… I walk.
These pictures ain’t gonna take themselves.
